Who inspires you?
Some people that really inspire me are those who are also going through mental health struggles, and/or other life difficulties. Seeing the strength of other people shine is very encouraging. It helps me to get through tough times when I know others are doing the same thing.
What has surprised you the most about life?
The power of the mind has surprised me the most. No doubt. A mind that is very mentally ill can change the way you think, the way you feel, and the way you act. Irrational thoughts and ideas can be planted in your head. A mentally ill mind can control your life.
The mind can also be very strong and resilient. Even when under assault from negative thoughts and feelings, the mind still has the power to keep you grounded, calm, and safe. I have found that I am able to use my mind in very positive ways as well. Ways that have changed my life.
My mind is somewhat of a mystery, but I can definitely appreciate the power it can hold over me.
Write five things you are grateful for:
-My family
-My friends
-Nature and the outdoors
-All of the doctors, nurses, social workers, and everyone in the mental health community who has helped me.
-My laptop charger, which made this blog post possible.
What do your demons tell you?
My demons tell me a lot of things. They aren’t as active as they once were, but they still make themselves heard.
My demons tell me that my efforts to fight mental illness are pointless. They tell me that I don’t belong here, and that I should be dead already. They tell me that I am doing the world more harm than good. They call me a lot of names and tell me I am worthless.
Thankfully, my demons don’t control me. I am able to see past these negative thoughts and continue on with my life. The sick part of my brain tells me a lot of things. But I can make the choice to disregard them. I can remain focused on strength and hope. Whatever it takes to be here tomorrow.
