Five Questions

I haven’t been able to put many thoughts together lately. My writing chain is missing a few links, so I’m keeping it simple. I found that the internet is full of writing prompts. I am going to answer 5 mental health related questions I found online.

Do you think your mental health is connected to your physical health?

My mental health is definitely connected to my physical health. One thing about my illness is that my energy levels often coincide with my moods. My physical health often suffers during my depressive episodes. Less exercise and poor nutrition are major factors. When my energy levels are high. I generally get a lot more exercise and spend more time outdoors.

Why is it important for people to prioritize their mental health?

Mental health is such a big component of your overall health. If you are struggling mentally, then all the other facets of your health will suffer too. Prioritizing your mental health means more balance, calm, and overall wellness in your life.

Do you know people who talk openly about their mental health? How does this impact you?

I am fortunate enough to know some people who are very open about their mental health. When other people are open about mental health, it validates my efforts and gives me inspiration to keep moving forward. The more we open up, the more it will spread. A high tide rises all boats.

Why is self-care an important part of mental health?

I think self-care is the most important part of mental health. Mental health treatments are very important and beneficial, but they need to be backed by self-care. Good self-care is the foundation that allows you to remain stable and make it through tough time. Two of the biggest aspects of my self-care are developing coping skills and trying to stay positive and present.

What would your life be like without mental illness?

I have no idea what my life would be like without mental illness. This is not a thing that I spend any time thinking about. Mental illness is such a big part of my life story now, that I don’t know who I am without it. Instead of dreaming up a fairy-tale where I live a perfect illness-free life, I choose to keep on doing what I know best. Surviving.
