“It takes two to speak the truth – one to speak and another to hear.”
-Henry David Thoreau
There are many of us walking the earth. We are the sorrowful. The worn down. The traumatized. The lost. We are suffering, but we are strong.
I have met numerous others with mental health struggles. I have chatted with the young and visited with the elderly. We are all so different, but we can all relate to each other. I have learned so much from my peers. We are not crazy or weak, we are sick.
I have always been one to write about my thoughts and feelings. I have not always been one to share them. But things are changing. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback from my writing. Mental illness is part of my story, and I want to make good use of it. If my thoughts help others, then I will share them.
I cannot erase all the stigma surrounding mental illness. I cannot help every single person that is suffering. I am not a superhero. But I am Trevor, and I wish to do my part. No matter how small that part may be.
I want people to know that mental illness is real. It is too real. I want people to listen. I want people to hear.
